Overview
The catastrophe of Smyrna in September 1922 was the climax and tragic conclusion of a series of events between Greece and the Ottoman Empire that started in 1912. The Lausanne Convention was signed on 30 January 1923 in order to respond to this tragedy and specified the conditions of the peace and the compulsory exchange of minority populations between Greece and Turkey. In this article , it is discussed the short and long term effect of the Lausanne Treaty on the two nations, their relations and to the world.
